Where We Have Been (Past Outings)

Sepetmber 29 and 30, 2007, The "Great State of Texas Panning Championship" in Llano, Texas. We had a great time with the panning championship (congrats to Daniel, again, for winning 1st place). We had several entrants in the metal detector hunt. Chapters getting together with rock hounds, detectorist, and knappers, all for a great show and get together. Thanks to all who participated and helped out. Thanks Walt "AMPO", GPAA, Garrett, the City of Llano, and other sponsers.

June 15-18, 2007: The outing at Hopewell Lake (Placer Creek Claim) was a big hit. Saturday & Sunday was a common operation. Friday was a "Show & Tell Day" with the USFS, the New Mexico Mining & Minerals Division and also the New Mexico Surface Water Quality Beaureau. The state agencies were very pleased with our demonstration and how little of affect we would have on the area. Burt Nichols from the Texarkana Chapter won the Garrett "Gold Scorpion" Metal Detector. We had 5 different chapters represented there over the weekend with 24 total participants attending. The draw and split Sunday night went well with a couple of small nuggets being given away. Thanks to all those who participated and to those who helped out with everything. Thanks also to Garrett for their generousity and sponsership.

April 13-15, 2007: We had a booth set up at the Waurika Rattlesnake Round Up in Waurika, Oklahoma. We sold Panning Kits, Gem Bags, Vials of Gold, and Youth Bags (containing pyrite, sharks teeth, fossiles, polished rocks, crystal, etc.) along with other panning supplies. We gave panning demonstrations and handed out many publications, magazines on prospecting and metal detecting. We had hourly drawings for prizes of gold pans, vials, scoops, hats, and other promotional items. We also gave away a Garrett "Ace 250" Metal Detector. It was won by a local Waurika woman. Thanks to Garrett, Walt at the GPAA, and to the Prospecting & Mining Journal.

October 20-22, 2006: We had a booth set up at the Knappers Rendezvous and Gem Show in Llano, TX where we sold several panning kits. This was part of the Llano Heritage Day Celebration. The 2nd annual "Texas Panning Contest" went great thanks to the sponsers (GPAA, Keene Engineering, Garrett Metal Detectors, The Prospecting & Mining Journal, and the Houston Museum of Natural Science). Daniel Klepac from the Round Rock chapter placed 1st in the panning contest and Bobby Morrow from the Wichita Falls chapter placed second. Thanks to "Boo Coo" for the panning demonstration with the "Big, rusty pan". We would also like to thank the other Texas chapters (Granbury, Llano, & Round Rock) for helping with everything.

September 23, 2006: Weekend outing to Wichita Mountains on Medicine Creek. Judy and Barbara both found poision ivy and everyone found a little gold.

June 2-5, 2006: Our big outing for the year was in Hillsboro, NM. A lot of heat and a little gold, but everyone had a good time. The bath houses in T or C were a great end for the day.

May 20, 2006: Saturday outing to Wichita Mountains on Medicine Creek. More snakes than gold at this one.

February 11-12, 2006: The Gold Show was held in Fort Worth, TX. Tom Massey and his family, along with Boo-Coo, were present. The Gold Show had many vendors and booths from all Chapters in Texas. Our chapter had a booth and were providing Panning Demonstrations, our chapter information, etc. We sold 39 Panning Kits, 3 Hats, 4 Denim Shirts, and 2 T-Shirts.

February 4, 2006: Rodney (Chapter VP) attended the first meeting of the Ardmore, Oklahoma chapter. He, along with Grant Rhodes (President of the Oklahoma City chapter), provided advice and information about the GPAA, holding meetings, etc.

September 2-5, 2005: Our chapter's first major outing was on the Arkansas River near Buena Vista, Colorado. We conducted a common operation using a 5 inch dredge, moving a lot of material. We even found a gold watch along with the pin that fell out of the watch band. A little gold was split among the participants.

June 10-12, 2005: The first outing sponsered by our chapter was at the Ron Colman Crystal Mine in Hot Springs, Arkansas. We found some really good crystal there. A GOOD place to go to find crystal.

May 27-30, 2005: Rodney (Chapter VP) attended an outing with the Llano chapter where Walt Eason (National Chairman of all GPAA Chapters) was on hand to speak about the GPAA and LDMA, and discuss each.

April 9-10, 2005: Our first outing was on the Brazos River in Granbury, Texas. We were invited by Derroll Ross (Texas State Director) and the Northeast Chapter. Rodney's first time at finding gold, and of course, catching GOLD FEVER.

Join us or another groups' outing and have a good time.

There's GOLD in them thar' hills.
